Arcane Rites

Artist Description

Arcane Rites - by definition "rituals and ceremonial acts known and understood by only a select few". Yet Arcane Rites are rapidly breaking out of the underground of their local Newcastle (Aust.) music scene and making an impact nationally and internationally. A testament to this was the 120 strong turnout at their very first gig at the Marquis O'Lorne in New Lambton.

Citing an eclectic list of influences from melodic to black metal and drawing from sounds from continent to continent, Arcane Rites have been table to transcend all their influences in sound, intensity and creativity. While they list their favourites as being Killswitch Engage, Cradle of Filth, Lacuna Coil and Daysend, among others, as influences, you would be hard pressed to find a single similarity to any of these bands.

When you listen to Arcane Rites, you instantly notice their tight, cohesive sound. Guitarists Tim and Stuart had been friends and bandmates for years, when they partnered with Adam (bass) to create Arcane Rites. Despite not having a vocalist or a drummer, they pressed on writing music until they were joined by vocalist Khel. A strong voice with a clear melodic tone added to their tight, melodic and rhythmic sound, helping forge their identity.

By their own admission, they were still missing an essential component to the sound they wanted to create. When Tom (drums) joined the group, he brought with him a sound knowledge of rhythms and beats from rock, swing and jazz. His addition saw the music develop into what the original members had in mind - dark, passionate and complex music with lyrics reaching from reality to fantasy. The end result - music that broadens your mind.
